Queens Award for Voluntary Service (added 17 June 2008)

As many of you know our Bannockburn RDA Volunteers were nominated for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2007 by Mr Dennis Canavan last autumn. The Queens Award for Voluntary Service is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon volunteer groups and is equivalent in status to the MBE.

The awards were announced on 2nd June 2008, and unfortunately we were not successful with our nomination. However, we have had a letter from the Cabinet Office of the Third Sector, saying that we were judged to be close to the standard for achieving the Award, and will be re-entered into the nominee pool for up to an additional three years.

The list of winners for the 2008 award will be announced on 2nd June 2008. For further information on the Queens Award for Voluntary Service please visit their website: www.queensawardvoluntary.gov.uk

West & Central Regional Dressage Competition (added 12 June 2008)

Once again, the Centre played hosted to the West & Central Regional Dressage Competition. Three groups (Bannockburn, Carrick and Glasgow) entered competitors to compete in walk only tests, walk and trot, and walt, trot and canter. Running along side this was the Handy Pony competition.

Bannockburn did extremely well with all riders entered in the qualifying classes all making their way down to the National Championships being held again at Hartpury, Gloucestershire. These riders are Lyn Dumbleton, Owen Keeble, Alan Reilly, Leanne Peters and Fraser Mathieson. Fraser, Leanne and Owen competed last year, so to have Lyn and Alan both qualifying is fantastic for the centre. Louis, Toby and Tino will provide the horse power with Sara and other staff/volunteers making the 400 mile trip down south.

The non-qualifying classes were also successful for Bannockburn with not many classes ending without a winner from the Centre. Well done to all these riders and those who entered the Handy Pony.

Lyn Dumbleton picked up the overall qualifying cup with a percentage mark of 73% and Zoe Fulton picked up the non-qualifying cup with an unbelievable, but fantastic, percentage score of 87%.

Lochaber Marathon (added 30 April 2008)

Sara and Andy both completed the Lochaber Marathon (26.2 miles) on Sunday in under 4 hours! Andy finished in an incredible 3hrs 47mins and Sara in a storming 3hrs 51mins. Congratulations to them both!! Sara enjoyed the event so much that she has already decided to enter the Berlin Marathon (26.2 miles) on 28th September 2008 this year, and is suggesting that people could sponsor her to beat her Lochaber marathon time - quite a challenge indeed! The Berlin Marathon is the fastest marathon course in the world, and with over 40,000 athletes cheered on by a million spectators and more than 70 live bands it is an unforgettable experience for everyone who takes part. And, as if that were not enough, inspired by their success, Dave is planning to take part in the Marathon Des Sables, a 6 day / 151 mile endurance race across the Sahara Desert in Morocco, dates to be announced but expected around Easter 2009, watch this space for further details...

Ceilidh Update (added 11 March 2008)

A big thank you to everyone who supported the Bannockburn Riding for the Disabled fundraising ceilidh at the Albert Halls on Friday, 29th February. We were delighted that so many friends and family were able to join us. We thought you might like to know that by supporting our ceilidh you helped us raise in excess of £1500 for Bannockburn Riding for the Disabled. Thank you! Today we had a lovely email from our ceilidh band, saying: "we were just knocked out by the number of folk and their enthusiasm. We play a lot of gigs, and sometimes it's hard work, but not with your lot!" Praise indeed. So congratulations to you all for making it a night to remember! If you have any comments or suggestions for our fundraising events team then email us at events@bannockburnrda.org.uk and let us know. ...and to those many people who asked, the answer is yes, we hope to hold another Ceilidh next year, and we hope to see you there! Here are a selection of quotes we had concerning the evening:

"Congratulations. Owen and I really enjoyed ourselves the evening was a huge success."
Jenny

"A fantastic job, well done."
Helen

"Thank You. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and look forward to next years event."
Andrew
